William "Bill" Bernard Kanz III passed away from cardiac arrest on August 1, 2025 at Bigfork Valley Hospital, Bigfork, Minnesota.
Bill was born in Minneapolis on April 8, 1948 to William B. Kanz and Jacqueline Kanz. He graduated in 1966 from Robbinsdale High School and attended North Hennepin Community College and Minnesota State. During that time, he worked for General Mills and was in the Air Force Reserve. He entered the regular Air Force and worked for the Department of Defense from 1977 to 2007. Bill retired with a rank of E-6 Technical Sergeant.
He married Lois the love of his life in 1991. During their years in Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming, Bill, with Lois by his side, loved spending time camping, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting, especially elk hunting.
After retirement, Bill and Lois moved to Marcell and diligently worked to remodel their home on the lake.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Lois Kanz, son Matthew, daughter Sarah Koste (Brad), stepdaughter Lynda Montoya (John) and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Michael Kanz (Bev), Arthur, Michael Dean (Julia), Tim, Daniel (Jane), Dennis (Karen). Sisters Patti Kirk (John), Pam Thompson & Helen Taillefer (Mike) and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Jan.
A memorial service will be held at Marcell Community Church on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 1:00 PM with visitation at Noon. Military Honors will follow the service, and a light lunch will be served afterwards. A private internment will be held in Montana at a later date.
