Wesley "Wes" Novy Obituary

Wesley Joseph "Wes" Novy, age 83, of Deer River, Minnesota, passed away at home on November 5, 2025. Born on May 22, 1942, in Pine City, Minnesota, Wes lived a life marked by service, adventure, and generosity.

Wes proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. Following his military service, he moved to California where he built a long and respected career as a member of the Operating Engineers Union. His work ethic and mechanical skill were evident throughout his professional life.

After many years out west, Wes returned to his home state of Minnesota to be closer to family and the natural beauty he cherished. For the past two decades, he made his home in Deer River, where he found peace in the quiet splendor of the Northwoods.

A man of many passions, Wes had a lifelong love for flying airplanes and working on motorcycles. He also enjoyed hunting in the northern woods—a pastime that reflected both his adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature. Known for his sense of humor and generous heart, Wes was a friendly presence to everyone he met. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on those around him.

Wes is survived by his sister Ellen Thieman (Denny); half brother Thomas Novy; niece Laura Gale; nephews Albert William Anderson (Brenda), Darrell Psaffendorf, Dale Psaffendorf, and Wayne Psaffendorf; as well as close family friends Mary Kowalkowski and Mike Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rosella (MacAdams) Novy and William Novy; sister Everal Psaffendorf ; nephew Gordy Psaffendorf; half sister Marjorie Martel; half brother Randy Novy; and stepbrother Ronald Purdy.

Wes will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Veterans Memorial Service will be held at a later date to honor his life and service. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
