Warren Welch Obituary

Warren William Welch, a man of remarkable skill and wit, passed away peacefully at Bigfork Valley Hospital in Bigfork, MN, July 7, 2024.

Warren was born on February 25, 1939, in Frederic, WI, to Ray and Frances (Sinden) Welch, Warren grew up with a profound sense of curiosity and a knack for understanding the mechanics of the world around him. A graduate of Webster High School in 1957, Warren's early years were spent working on his parents' farm in Webster, WI. He worked a variety of jobs including Rolite Trailers and US Bedding until he found his long-term career at Durex in Luck, WI, before retiring in 1990. Retirement did not slow Warren down. Warren and Caroline moved to Bigfork, MN where he continued to work in logging and the Bigfork Dump.

Warren's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. He possessed an insatiable curiosity that drove him to take things apart just to see how they were put together. His passion for building trailers was evident in his constant endeavor to improve with each new project. Warren's love for scrapping was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his ability to see value and potential in the discarded. His adventurous spirit shone through in the many motorcycle trips he enjoyed with his beloved wife, Caroline, exploring the open road and creating lasting memories. Warren enjoyed visiting family and engaging in lively games of cribbage, where his humor and sharp mind made every game memorable.

Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Welch; children, Karen Welch and Jack Welch; granddaughter, Katelynn David; parents, Ray and Frances Welch; and siblings, Ray Welch Jr., Richard Welch, and Beulah Welch; and furry companions LeRoy and Sam.

He will be remembered by his loving children, Marilyn (Gus) David, Frances (Bill) Curran, and Charlie (Johanna) Welch; sister, Thelma Johnson (Dean Dversdall); 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; his furry companion, Eleanore; and many extended family and friends.

Described by those who knew him as interesting, handy, and funny. His ability to find humor in the everyday and his skillful hands that could fix or create almost anything on top of never knowing what he’d say next were just a few of the qualities that made him an extraordinary individual. His memory will be cherished and his stories retold, bringing smiles to the faces of those who remember the man who could always be counted on for a clever joke or a helping hand.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm at Warren’s house in Bigfork, MN.
