Violet Mae Richardson was born on October 9,1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the end of her life, she lived on Rush Island Lake north of Deer River, Minnesota. Prior to that she was a world traveler with her husband who was in the Air Force. They lived in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Colorado, California, Bangkok Thailand, Florida, and back to Minnesota for the remaining years. She traveled for enjoyment to places like Hawaii, traveled Europe on the Eurail Pass and saw places like Germany, Paris, Geneva Switzerland, Italy, Pompeii, Greece, and Turkey. They also went to Alaska, and on a driving trip through Canada. They were true travelers together.
Violet was a type A personality who excelled in all she attempted. She was a fantastic cook, seamstress, teacher of English to foreign students, and especially excelled as a wife and mother. She was a real estate agent who closed 2.5 million dollars in sales in Florida, and another million in California. She could really sell those homes! She was also a fantastic Avon seller in her early years. She achieved the Diamond level in Avon sales. At one point, she went back to Community College to study Cosmetology. She and her daughter Kim graduated college together on the same day, she with a degree in Cosmetology and Kim with a degree in Horse Training and Management. In her later years she began quilting and made many, many beautiful quilts. She even belonged to a Quilting club. Quilting was definitely her love and her kids and grandkids benefited from that love.
Violet had 4 children, Dennis, Kimberly, Leonard, and Quinn. She also had 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons Dennis and Quinn, her grandson Daniel, her sister Sandra, her brothers Edward and Johnny, and her mother and father. We are sure they were all there to greet her when she passed. She is survived by her loving husband Jon, her daughter Kimberly, and her son Leonard. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sister Alice (Tiny), and her brother Perry (wife Cathy).
She passed into the Lord’s hands on March 13, 2025 at the age of 89 in her home on Rush Island Lake.
Services will be held on March 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm with a viewing at 1:00 pm at the Sand Lake Community Center on Hwy 4 in Itasca County. There will be a small luncheon afterward.
