Shirley G. (Nelson) Davis Passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, with her daughter Nancy at her side. Shirley was born on March 1, 1931, in North Dakota, the youngest of eleven children of Peter and Gudrun Nelson, and lived most of her life in the Bigfork Minnesota area.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Howard E. Davis, as well as 10 sisters and brothers, and Howard’s four brothers. She was the last of her generation. Shirley is survived by four children: Nancy Peck (Gary), Chris Davis (Bonnie), Mark Davis, (Jean) and Sherry White (Jim). She had eight grandchildren: Melynda Fideldy (Robert), Joseph White (Laurel), Thomas White, Louis Howard (Jasmine), Leslie White, Mark Howard (Kimberly), Jane White and Luke Davis. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a homemaker who also worked many seasonal jobs including planting trees, wild ricing, and picking balsam boughs. For a number of years she ran the edger in the family’s sawmill. Shirley will be remembered with love by her family. They will miss lefse, fresh food from her garden, knitted sweaters and so much more. The family thank Garden Court Chateau and Essentia Health (Itasca) Health Hospice for their excellent care.
A memorial service will be planned for the summer of 2025, when She will be interred in the Bigfork Cemetery next to those of her husband Howard.
