Robert Allen Beckman

Robert Allen Beckman April 11, 1928 - July 12, 2024 The youngest of Peter and Myrtle Beckman's four children, Bob was born in Grattan Township. He realized his dream to live independently on the family farm until his death in Bigfork Valley Hospital at age 96.

Bob attended school through 8th grade but his heart was for the outdoors, not the classroom. At age 14 his lifelong logging career began, trucking to the mills in Int'l Falls, Bemidji and Deer River from the Beckman Logging Camp.

Dec 28, 1946, he married Lucille (Carrigan) McNew. Together they raised four children while logging, farming, driving school bus for Dist 318 and enjoying many Canadian fishing trips until her death in 1996.

Bob was known for his dry humor, quick wit, athleticism and great love of family, especially his grandchildren. Living a quiet Christian faith, he leaves a legacy of wisdom, integrity, respect, kindness and love.

Survived by sister Lois Kanne, son Ronald (Barbara) Beckman, daughters Bonnie Matheson, Marion (Tim) Treat, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Preceded in death by wife Lucille, son Allen Beckman, grandson John Matheson, sister Vivian Thomas and brother John Beckman.

Visitation will be held at the Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River, MN July 22nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Service on July 23rd will be held at River of God Church, Big Falls, MN at 11:00 a.m. Lunch to follow. Burial will be at the Grattan Cemetery.
