Obituary
Robert Allan Backer, age 81, of Deer River, MN, passed away at Miller Dwan Medical Center in Duluth, MN, on July 20, 2023, following a battle of Lymphoma cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn (Stolt) Backer, son Brett Allan Backer (Randi Backer), daughter Janella Fesenmaier (Adam Fesenmaier), and granddaughter Stella.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Leona Backer, and brother William.
Robert was born on August 20, 1941, in Duluth, MN, where he lived until the age of 25 and then moved to St. Paul, MN, where he continued his 43-year career with Farmers Union Grain Terminal Association (GTA), retiring in 2000.
Since 2004, he has lived in northern Minnesota with his wife on beautiful Bowstring Lake in Itasca County, MN. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and appreciated him. His love of family and friends, and his emotions and humor, were often expressed through his drawings and caricature artworks.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Carroll Funeral Home, 314 Main Ave East, Deer River, MN, 56636.
