Richard "Dick" Schedin Obituary

Obituary - Richard (Dick) Schedin 1942-2019 Richard Verle Schedin, beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and broth-inlaw died peacefully May 25th, 2019 at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Mn. Close family and friends all had an opportunity to visit with him and say their good buys. He will be interred at the Pine Ridge Cemetery, Deer River, MN with a Celebration of Life planned at a later date when family and friends can gather, please check the website CarrollFuneralHomes.com for updates or contact the family. Dick is survived by his wife, Chris, children Morgan, Patricia, Andrew, Stephanie Barnhill and grandson, Owen. Siblings are Larry, Janis (Jerry) Ott, Steve (Kathy) Ott and many loved nieces and nephews. Dick was born to Veretta and Leonard Schedin on July 8th, 1942 in Rochester, Mn. He traveled with his family at age 4 to Bowstring Mn where they started a small store (now the Bowstring Store) that housed the local phone exchange, post office, fire warden, and was a center of the community. He joked about rubber necking on the phone line and all the joys of living in a small tight knit community. He graduated from Deer River HS and left home for Junior College in Rochester, worked in Missouri then graduated from the U of M College of Biological Sciences in biology and chemistry. He met his wife Chris in 1969, were married in 1970 and lived in the Minneapolis area where they were blessed with three wonderful children, Morgan 1972, Patricia 1976 and Andrew 1978. Dick worked in various chemistry jobs until 1976 when, as a result of Morgan’s disability, Chris and Dick started their business providing Rehab Equipment that was later know as Wheelchairs Plus. The business grew to two offices in Grand Rapids and St Cloud in the 1990’s then was sold in 2013. The family moved to Bowstring in 1981 and built a home on Little Jessie Lake where he could enjoy the things he loved and be close to family roots. Dick had a great sense of humor, loved feeding the birds, fishing, hunting, music, played the Banjo and taught plus performed clog dancing but retired early due to a heart condition. He was a respected member of the community and after retirement he was a Hospice Volunteer, Bowstring Chapel Trustee & Elder, & Township supervisor. Memorials may be made to the Second Harvest NCFB (secondharvestncfb.com) in Grand Rapids or Itasca Life Options (ItascaLifeOptions@yahoo.com) that benefits people of different abilities through community and art.
