Raymond "Toop" Demo Obituary

Raymond “Toop” Demo, 87, died peacefully at his home in Bena, Minnesota on Tuesday, March 7, 2023,

Toop was born December 1, 1935 in Bena, Minnesota to Boyd and Mae Demo. He was so anxious to greet the world that he was born right in front of his parent’s homestead, weighing a whopping 13 pounds!

Toop was an avid outdoorsman and a man of many tales! He lived a simple life but found great reward in all of the many activities that nature had to offer. Toop loved to hunt, fish, and trap and always had many stories to share about his outings. One of his greatest moments was bagging a monster 19 point buck and then having to drag it 2 miles out of the woods all by himself! He was also very proud of the 30+ pound northern that he speared on 6 Mile Lake. Toop, along with his brother, Paush, were gifted craftsmen, making canoes, shelves, swings, benches, and knockers. The very last canoe that Paushand Toop made together was something that he displayed proudly in his home.

Toop worked various jobs with the USFS and Johnson’s Lumber Mill until he severely injured his back which left him disabled. Toop stayed busy by doing yard work for many resorts and individuals. He relied on his ATV’s to get him to everywhere he wanted to go. His latest was the Cadillac of all ATV’s; a side by side with windows, heat, and equipped with a plow.

Toop never married but was the best Uncle to his nieces and nephews. He loved kids and always had a piece of Juicy Fruit gum for them all!

Toop is survived by his nieces and nephews, Leon (Luann), Tracy, Roxie, Ronnie, Clarence, Emmy, Connie, Cindy, Julie, Debbie, LuAnn, and Brian, his sister, Marlene, Sister-In-Law, Emma, numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Royal and Leland (Paush), sister, Delores, and special nephew, John (Jay Jay).

Toop will be remembered for his many stories, witty humor, and his blue twinkling eyes.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 11:00 am-8:00 pm, and the services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm, both at the Old Community Center in Bena, Minnesota. He will be buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, immediately following the service.
