Norma Mae Wilson

Norma Mae Wilson (Zhaawan) was born on May 12, 1931.

It was always a special time for her every year because it landed on Mother’s Day, Her family always a had special birthday and Mother’s Day Party for her. She passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. She married Darwin Wilson 71 years ago and lived a very long life.

Norma worked as a Community Heath Representative and for the Elderly Nutrition Program for the Leech lake Band of Ojibwe. She was a very nice, respectable, caring, loving person to everyone she knew. Norma had knowledge in speaking the Ojibwe language from her parents and grandparents and understood everything they had spoken in Ojibwe. She enjoyed doing beadwork,sewing jingle dresses and moccasins. She was excellent in crocheting, she made pretty flower throws. Anything to do with sewing Norma could do. Her bead work was very beautiful. She sewed birch bark bird houses, baskets, and canoes. Norma was everything to her family, she was a excellent cook and she always had a big heart if anyone needed to talk she would listen and give them wisdom and encouragement to see things in life in a better perspective. She had unconditional love for anyone that needed her.

She is survived by her husband, Darwin Wilson Sr., 3 daughters, Constance, Louann and Gayle, 2 sons Darwin (Jerry) Jr., and Darrell (Jummers) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is on her journey to be with her Mother and Father, Dora and Joe Fairbanks, Sisters Agnes, Rosey, 2 infants, a brother and sister. Also her son Terrance Wilson Sr., her grandson Terrell Wilson, her granddaughter Jolene, her grandson Joseph (Joey) Isham, and daughter Carol and her daughter Lynn Marie. She will be very missed by many.
