Our loving mother Marlene Angela Steffen age 91 of Deer River passed peacefully away on December 17, 2023 at River Grand Memory Care. Marlene was born July 29th, 1932 to Albin and Marie Johnson in Bigfork, MN. She graduated from Bigfork High School and then married the love of her life Bill Steffen on June 23rd, 1951. They made their home north of Deer River on Hanson Lake.
She is survived by three children Lorrie (Randy Jackson) Stangland, Kenneth Steffen, Janice (Donald) Dewey and two foster children, Jack Starken and Wendy Schultz, six grandchildren, Heather Steele, Courtney Jackson, Ryan Dewey, Darek Dewey, Joseph Dewey and Jill Kelsey. Also 17 great grand children and one great-great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by her parents Albin Johnson and Marie (Stejskal) Johnson, brothers Oscar Johnson and Leland Johnson, husband William Steffen and son Michael Steffen.
Marlene loved her family well. She was a devoted wife and ran her home well, she could be counted on by her kids to always be there as a present source of support. She was a second mom to many and was appreciated for her caring, selfless, and patient demeanor. She cultivated meaningful relationships with her friends and neighbors. She cherished the outdoors from gardening, to making maple syrup to watching birds and caring for animals. She will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
A special thank you to Essentia Hospice and especially River Grand Memory Care for the wonderful care she was given.
