Mitinimiiding, Louis Allen Boyd, also known as Louie, age 83 of Leech lake, Minnesota, passed away April 22, 2024. Traditional Funeral Services will be 10AM Tuesday, April 30th 2024 at the Squaw Lake Community Hall in Squaw Lake, MN with Spiritual Leader Allen Hardy officiating. A wake will begin at 4 PM, Monday, April 29th at the Squaw Lake Community Hall and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Round Lake Cemetery in Squaw Lake, MN under the direction of the Carroll Funeral home in Deer River, Minnesota.
Mitinimiiding, Louie was born on July 29th, 1941 in Cass lake Minnesota to Elizabeth Boyd. Louie was a international champion grass dancer, commonly known as the “legend” throughout Indian country -he was a mentor to all he came into contact with and teaching all the ways of the Anishinaabe people. He was a forager for medicines and food, a hunter and a harvester for wild rice -a survivor of the logging camps from 1944 during WW2 He enjoyed going to the casino. Louie became his own advocate with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives as he searched for his grandson Damon Lee Boyd. He loved to spend his time making pow wow regalia and ceremonial items, and spending time with grandchildren
