Kazimierz Roterman, age 79, of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Essentia St. Mary's, Duluth, MN with his wife beside him. Kazimierz was born June 19, 1946, in Weiden, Germany, to Jozef and Helen (Potozniak) Roterman. The family arrived in Detroit, Michigan in 1950, where they settled. Kaz graduated from Saint Stanislaus High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1964. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana, where he met and married Janis Angela Fairbanks in 1968. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1969, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. Kaz pursued a 40-year career as a retail store manager for Borman Foods, before retiring in 2010.
In 2015, the family moved to Cloquet, Minnesota. Kaz's leisure activities were hunting, fishing, reading, and playing cards with Janis, watching football and playing Fantasy Football with his son, John, and gardening. He liked to tell stories about his long-time pet terrier Jack, who lived 14 years as Kaz's buddy. Kaz and son John tackled household projects singing the commercial of the day ditty that said, "We're Father and Son, we do it all!"
Kaz was a devout Roman Catholic. He believed in the power of prayer and prayed regularly. He will be intensely missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jozef and Helen Roterman.
Kaz is survived by his wife Janis Fairbanks, son John William Roterman, four grandchildren, Michelle (Joe) Biggs, Zachary (Maddie) Roterman, Jacqui Roterman & Rachel Roterman. one great grandson Phoenix Wohlfeil, one brother, Ted (Kathe) Roterman, one sister Diane (Michael) Wielgat, in-laws, Arleen (John) Heyd of Shafer, Patricia (Ken Sorenson of Duluth, Phyllis Henry) Stott of Duluth. He also leaves to cherish his memory several nieces, nephews, and friends for whom he deeply cared.
The funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. with a wake at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 15 1s Ave NE, Deer River, MN 56636, followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M., with a Luncheon to follow the Mass. a burial with full military honors at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, MN will follow the lunch.
Active Pallbearer will be Shaun Himango, Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky W. DeFoe, Bernard Fjone, Paul Fjone, George Goggleye Jr., Gary Gretz, Zachary J. Roterman, James Henry Scott & Phoenix Wohlfeil.
Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, Minnesota
