John William Suvanto, known as "Finn," to all, passed away Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at his home with his significant other Kathy and Bonni at the age 74.
John was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, on September 30th, 1951. He was a Marine, Lance Corporal, Rifle Range Coach, Landscaper, Trapper, Wild Rice Picker, and a Harvester of seasonal plants. John also tapped maple trees and made maple syrup. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and playing baseball on local teams with all of his friends (you know who you are).
John was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and his son Cass Molar.
John is survived by his significant other Kathy Willett and her daughter Bonni. He was called Papa John by Kathy's grandkids, 2 girls and 2 boys, as well as her 6 great-grandkids, 2 girls and 4 boys. He is also survived by his daughter Kayla and grandson Jamyson, Kayla's sister Tiana and her kids Hayden, Kiera, sister in-law Becky Komulainen and 3 Nieces, 1 nephew and great- niece.
A memorial visitation was held Thursday, January 15th at Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River, MN, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A graveside service with full military honors, will be held in the summer of 2026, with a lunch to follow at the VFW in Deer River, MN.
