Jerald "Jerry" Albert Leininger

Jerald (Jerry) Albert Leininger was born March 8, 1956 to Marvin and Doris Leininger in Estherville, Iowa. Jerry departed this life the morning of Sunday, November 29, 2020 near Deer River, MN at the age of 64. Jerry was raised in Dolliver, Iowa and attended Lincoln Central High School. After high school, Jerry joined the Armed Services where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. After his term in the military, Jerry returned to Estherville where he met his wife Mary Sheridan. They were joined in marriage on June 3, 1977 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. They later welcomed two daughters to their family; Amy in 1978 and Jodi in 1982. In 1977, Jerry started his career in public service for the Estherville City Municipal Waste Treatment department. He worked for the City of Estherville until 1992. In 1992, Jerry accepted a position as the Superintendent of the Waste Water Treatment facility for the City of Hampton. He proudly served the Hampton community in this role until his retirement in April of 2020. After retirement, Jerry & Mary took residence in Deer River, MN where they fulfilled their lifelong dream of owning a lake home in northern MN. All who knew Jerry, know that he loved the outdoors. So in his spare time, you could often find him outside in nature hunting, fishing, splitting wood, in the vegetable garden, feeding birds, taking UTV rides in the woods, or pontoon rides on the lake, grilling, around a campfire, or watching his grandchildren play sports. Jerry was dedicated to his family and friends so he was always willing to offer them a helping hand. He would do anything to put a smile on their face or make them laugh.

Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is his wife Mary of Deer River, MN; his daughters: Amy Dunn and her husband Ryan of Plymouth, MN; Jodi Hussey and her husband Paul of Spirit Lake, IA; grandchildren: Quinn, Quiana, Qai, Adriana, Qamerin, Ryley, Qaecious, Qage, Qinnedy; brothers: James, John, Dennis; sisters: Carol, Bootsie; brothers in law: Robert, James, Matthew, Norman; Allen, Tom; sisters in law: Kim, Julie, Joyce, Joan, Regina, Roberta, Yolanda, Amanda; and also by several nephews, nieces, and friends.

Preceding Jerry in death are his parents; parents in law Robert & Ellen Sheridan; as well a brother and two sisters.

A celebration of life for Jerry will be scheduled at a later date in 2021 when it is safe to gather and Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.
