Jack Thompson, 78, of Effie, Minnesota, died on, Tuesday November 17, 2020, at Aspen Circle of Bigfork, Minnesota.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Earleen, first wife Sandra (Astry) Thompson, and his second wife, Joyce (Holcomb) Thompson.
Jack is survived by his son, Jason Thompson and his wife, Angela; his stepchildren and their spouses, Steve and Kathy Mann; Rocky Mann; Ron and Holly Mann; Robert and Krystal Holcomb; David Holcomb; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his sister Peggy (Thompson), her husband, Melvin Peters, and their two children.
Jack was the second child born to Charles and Earleen (Cleavenger) Thompson in January of 1942. He grew up in Indiana. His older sister Peggy and her family still live in Indiana. Jack joined the Army after graduating from high school. After his time ended in the Army, he traveled the United States for a year before settling in Craigville, MN with his mom and dad. Jack worked in the logging industry for many years. His first logging job was alongside his father at Thompson and Son. Upon retiring from logging, Jack became an apartment manager for the Condor Apartments in Bigfork, MN. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Jack enjoyed entertaining family and friends with amusing stories of hunting and fishing. His hobbies including horseshoes, wood working, gardening, keeping his mushroom picking grounds secret, hunting, fishing, and camping. He touched many people’s lives and will be remembered for his smile and always offering a kind word. One of Jack’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted children. He considered himself lucky enough to be the kind of father who was there for them through their ups and downs and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Carroll Funeral Home of Deer River, MN.
