Harriett (Elton) Elliott, 94, passed away peacefully on February 1st, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Erhard, Minnesota, on August 6th, 1927, to Lou and Harriett Stiyer, moving to Deer River in 1933. After graduating from Deer River High School in 1945, she met Lyle Elton and married on April 26th, 1946. They resided in the Deer River area until 1979, when they retired and moved to Mesa, Arizona.
Harriett had a variety of jobs over the years, from switchboard operator in Deer River, to cooking on a wagon train in Jackson, Wyoming. She was very active with Girl Scouts as well as helping out with Boy Scouts in Deer River. Her dutch oven and cast iron griddles were well used and fed many hungry campers.
Harriett is survived by her children, Linda Nyman-Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gordon (Dottie) Elton-Sarasota, Florida, Norman (Peggy) Elton-Sarasota, Florida, Jessica Brenden-Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Chuck (Liz) Elton-Deer River, Minnesota. Survivors also include 8 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Lyle Elton, second husband, Frank Elliott, brothers Miles Stiyer, Louis Stiyer, and Archie Stiyer. She was also preceded by two grandchildren, Jason Elton and Emma Elton as well as one great-great grandson, William Annen.
Funeral services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Deer River, Minnesota on March 26th, 2022 with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11a.m. A graveside service will be held at a future date.
