Glenn B. Olson, 96, of Cohasset, MN, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2019, at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. Glenn Olson was born to Norwegian immigrant parents in Manitoba, Canada, on May 21, 1923. His family moved to Minnesota when he was a small child. He attended school in Cass Lake, MN, and answered the call to defend democracy during World War II, becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States in Paris, France, in 1944. During the war he served in the 271st Combat Engineers Division, 3rd Army, 31st Platoon, 2nd Squadron. Glenn is survived by his son Ronald Olson and daughter-in-law Regina (Wood) Olson, grandson Keith Olson, granddaughter Ellen Olson and her husband David Schwab, and two great-grandchildren Noah and Audrey Schwab, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Mae (Lyons) Olson, his parents Barney and Carrie (Petersen) Olson, brothers Marvin and Palmer, and sister Alice (Olson) Miller. Living most of his life in Deer River, Glenn was known for his hard work and willingness to offer a helping hand. Although he worked at Standard Oil service station and Chippewa Motors in Deer River, MN, and at Weyerhaeuser in Everett, WA, he was employed for most of his life by Enbridge Pipeline (formerly Lakehead). He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Deer River Volunteer Fire Department, VFW Post #2720, and the United Methodist Church. It was often said that if Glenn wasn’t catching fish, they just weren’t biting. In addition to fishing, Glenn and his wife Phyllis enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, boating, and motorcycling. He experienced a long retirement making trips to Arizona each year for the winter.
A Memorial Service for Glenn B. Olson is scheduled for Friday, July 19, at 11:00 at the United Methodist Church in Deer River,
