Gene grew up in Kettle River Minnesota where he worked as a general farmer. He then served in the US Army at a rank of technical Sergeant as infantry marksman and antitank NCO. He was awarded Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory medal, Good Conduct medal, and Army of Occupation medal (Japan). Gene later met Marion D. Danielson And they married January 3, 1949. Gene and Marion celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year. He then went to worked in the woods as a logger and worked for Rajalas Mill in Bigfork MN for 55 years until he retired.

Gene and Marion have three children, Leanna Adamson (Bigfork MN), Floyd Zasoski (Bigfork MN), Mark Zasoski (Bigfork MN), He has 8 grandchildren, Michele Rice (Arkansas), Terry Carlson (MN), Ronald Carlson (Bovey MN), Bridget Jurgansen (Bigfork MN), Jim Carlson (Pengilly MN), Archie Hofer (Hibbing MN), Chris Hofer (Bigfork MN), and Brandon Fokken. Gene also has 18 great grandchildren and many great, great grandchildren .

Gene was well known and very well liked by all of the Bigfork community. He was also known for his storytelling and jokes. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of Bigfork.
