Erick Bernard Carlson, 90, of Spring Lake, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. He was presently residing at the Essentia Health Homestead Nursing Home in Deer River, MN. Erick was born in Grand Rapids, MN on February 17, 1930 to John and Agda (Larson) Carlson. Erick attended schools in the community and then later attended Deer River High School. He met and married his wife, Viola Wass, who would have been married 67 years on August 11, 2020. They lived in the Sand Lake community all of their years together until Erick moved into the Essentia Health Homestead Nursing home in 2013 as a result of a stroke. Erick was very involved in his community throughout his life. He was the PTO president at North Elementary school, on the board for the Deer River Co-op, served on the Sand Lake Township, member of the Squaw Lake Seniors Club, member of the Northwoods Church and president and member of the North Country Swingers Square Dance Club. He participated in a Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial for seven years. He was very musically talented and would play his accordion for many through his church, nursing homes, family and friends that he would get together and jamm with. Erick and Viola would host a Pick 'n Post at their home every July for family, friends and neighbors to attend. Any and everyone who wanted to share their music and talent were invited to do so. Erick was first a farmer on the farm that his parents homesteaded, a logger and owned and operated an Excavating business that he and his son, Curt, operated together.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Agda (Larson) Carlson and brother, Arthur Carlson.
Erick is survived by his wife, Viola; children, Cindy (Tim) Silbernagel of Farmington, MN; Sherry (Mike) Weis of Chanhassen, MN; Curtis (Laurel) Carlson of Spring Lake, MN; grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Ashley and Travis; great grandchildren, Addilyn and Carter.
