Elizabeth Violet Shelander (Betty) was 96 years old from Bigfork, MN.
She died on 4/26/2020 at the Bigfork Long Term Care Home.
Betty was born on 7/1/1923 in Neenah, WI.
Betty is survived by daughter Judy Smith (Brian), Granddaughters Sherry Selander Abel (Olaf) and Dena Selander (Mike) Great Granddaughter Sonja Abel. Step granddaughters Caron Guffogg (Simon) and Sarah Maguire (Philip) and step Great Grandsons Jack Guffogg and Francisco Maguire and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold (Red), parents William and Violet Hafeman and brother Stewart Hafeman.
A memorial service at the Bigfork Presbyterian Church for Betty will be held at a later date due to the ongoing pandemic.
Betty was born in Wisconsin but moved to Liberty West, Bigfork MN as a child. She graduated from Bigfork High school in 1941 and started her working career as a nurse’s aide in the Bigfork Hospital. In September 1946 she married Arnold Shelander an infantryman returning from the European theater. Together they lived in Dora Lake, MN, Chicago, IL Blaine, WA, Minneapolis, Big Falls and Karlstad, MN before returning to Bigfork. Betty's love of art was fostered by her artist and birch bark canoe builder father Bill Hafeman and was an active member in the Edge of the Wilderness Art League. She was member of the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and an Elder at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. Betty loved to travel, not only in the USA but also with her Grandchildren, to the British Isles and other European countries.
