Ed and Marie married in 1970 and shared 55 years together. They enjoyed boating, water skiing, tubing with family and friends at Knife Lake and later near Marcell. Dad and his nephew Steve and all of us sons went on a lot of hunting trips together through the years. We did a lot of outdoor work and play. When Ed and Marie purchased their existing home at Burns Lake, they enjoyed lots of gardening, building flower beds, and having grandkids, family and friends visit. As most know Ed loved his dogs and also to watch the large numbers of hummingbirds and other birds at their feeders.
Paul reflects, Ed started working at the Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant in June of 1969 and spent over 37 years there. A supervisor in different departments over the years he treated people with respect and dignity. Sometimes I would get to work with him and the men and women who worked for him always said he was the best foreman. I was asked today about memories of him and Ford, and I thought where do I start, and this one came up. It was dads last day of work at the plant and he called to have me help him and his guys out in tri-level (where trucks get loaded on the railcars and shipped). It was kind of a bittersweet day with him retiring and the rest of us hearing about the plant possibly closing. I moved the rows of trucks and went to his office to see what to do next. He wasn't there so I went to the break room and asked Greg Tonn if he knew where he went and Greg looked at me with an almost sad but proud look on his face and said "Yeah, I know where your dad is... He's been here almost 40 years, this is his last day and he's up in the front office still fighting for us, I can't believe it". There was a pause, and I nodded, turned around, wiped my eyes and looked at dad's empty chair and said... "I can".
