David Matthew Sundquist

David Matthew Sundquist, age 42 died Sunday, July 28th 2019 surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s ICU in Duluth fighting the affects of alcoholism. He was born in Deer River, Minnesota on September 22, 1976 to Dennis Sundquist and Cindy (Medecke)Sundquist/Hoppe/Love, and was the second oldest of four children, Michael Sundquist, Christina (Hoppe)Francisco, Max Hoppe Jr. David was raised in Suomi and graduated from the DRHS in 1995. David was preceded in death by his father, niece Michelle, and his great niece Maliyah, and will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and father. David is survived by two daughters, Ruby (12) and Phoebe (8). Anyone who ever met David knew that he was full of humor and welcomed all. He was also a favored uncle for his constant jokes and riddles as well as his ability to make everyone giggle and remember to act like a child from time to time. David was also a devoted father and cherished all opportunities to be with his daughters. He supported their interests from dance, soccer, Karate, and even Girl Scouts. He always carried pictures and shared their stories with everyone around him displaying what a proud father he was. Even though David made his journey to heaven at such a young and unexpected age due to his struggle with alcohol we as a family will always remember and celebrate his life through our memories of times filled with laughter and smiles. We would like to thank all friends and family who have sent their prayers and supportive thoughts. Special thanks to the staff at St. Luke’s ICU for their constant care, support, and never ending understanding for David and our family every step of the way preparing David to find his everlasting peace. We would like to invite all family and friends to come and celebrate David’s life with us at the Carroll Funeral Home of Deer River, Minnesota on Sunday, August 4th, 2019 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Burial of his ashes will be held on a later date deemed by his immediate family.
