David "Dave" Lee Schumacher, 65, of Cohasset, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 in his home. He was born on May 3, 1955 to Wayne and Katherine (Jacobson) Schumacher in Menahga, MN. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1973. He met his high school sweetheart Deloris "Dee" Greniger and were wed on May 9, 1980. Together they raised three children in Cohasset. He began his steelworker career following graduation at Butler Taconite in Nashwauk and then was a carpenter for many years during the strike. He continued his career with National Steel in Keewatin until retirement in 2012. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend to many. His grandkids meant the world to him in every way and his dog Cocoa was his greatest companion. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to hunt, trap and fish. He was his happiest showing off his hunting mounts and telling stories of the deer camp. You could find him watching NASCAR, hunting shows, at swap meets and car shows (he sure loved his classic cars), rides on the four-wheeler, getting lost on the back roads, picking agates, watching the wildlife in the pond, shooting squirrels from the front window and playing foosball with friends. Following retirement he enjoyed the simple life and spending quality time with those he loved. He had the purest heart and always made sure his family was taken care of, never asking for much in return. His most memorable characteristic was his uncanny resemblance to Phil and Si Robertson of 'Duck Dynasty'. He wore his camouflage 365 days a year and was proud to be called "Uncle Si".
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris "Dee" Schumacher; parents Wayne and Katherine Schumacher; father-in-law Edward "Bud" Greniger and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his son Chad (Margie) Schumacher of Deer River; daughters Amy Bonestell of Deer River and Becky Schumacher of Grand Rapids; six grandkids Drew, Samara, Logan, Lillian, Kilee and Zoey; siblings Dale Schumacher of Remer, Gayle (David) Anderson of Cohasset; mother-in-law Edna Greniger of Cohasset; step-mother Dianna Schumacher of Cohasset and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be held for immediate family only.
Services will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Wildwood Cemetery in Cohasset with a graveside memorial at 1pm. Family and friends are encouraged to wear camo to honor him.
