Christopher Eugene Horton
Christopher Eugene Horton, age 73, passed away on March 21, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1952, to Virgil and Charlene (née Noftsger) Horton.
A proud veteran, Christopher served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. It was perhaps there that he honed the mechanical genius he was known for throughout his life. While many knew him for his quick wit, those closest to him knew he was a true "quiet genius"—a man who could fix anything and a walking encyclopedia of history and trivia. He was a wealth of knowledge who moved comfortably through all walks of life, finding a friend in every stranger.
Music was the heartbeat of his life. A talented harmonica player in many bands, he was never happier than when he was in the middle of a jam session. He was the undisputed life of the party, a master storyteller whose imitations, especially his legendary "Cowardly Lion," could bring down the house.
Beneath the music and the laughter was a steady, quiet faith in God that anchored his life. He didn’t need to shout his beliefs; instead, he lived them out through his kindness and the humble way he shared his many talents. His family takes comfort in knowing that his music continues on in a greater band now.
Christopher was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Horton; his parents, Virgil and Charlene Horton; and his brothers, Mike and Randy.
He is survived by his children, Matthew Horton and Joslin Krist; his step-children, CJ (Debbie) Troutt, Phillip (Missy) Troutt, and Danya (Tommy) Clement; his brother, Billy; and his many grandchildren, who will carry forward his stories, his music, and his brilliant spirit.
A funeral service will be held on May 2nd at 11:00 AM at the River of God Church in Big Falls, MN, with a luncheon to follow. Per Christopher’s wishes, his ashes will be spread in Hawaii, a place that held a special place in his heart.
