Carol Elizabeth Reindl passed away on August 22nd, surrounded by loved ones. Carol was born to Milo and Nellie Peterson on January 3, 1938. She grew up in International Falls, MN, and later moved to Duluth, MN to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing.
Carol took great pride in her career as a nurse. While she spent years with US Steel’s medical center, the majority of her career was with St Luke’s in Duluth, starting at the hospital, then working in occupational medicine, eventually becoming the director of the department. Carol retired from nursing in 1993, after several decades of fulfilling and meaningful work.
In 1960, Carol married George Reindl. The two went on to have four children and raised their family in the Gary-New Duluth community. In retirement, Carol and George spent much of their time between their lake home in Bigfork, MN and snowbirding to Arizona for over 30 years. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Carol enjoyed reading, always having a book in progress and more than a few waiting for her on the shelf. In her retirement, she learned how to quilt, making beautiful intricate quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
Beyond her hobbies, Carol found so much joy and pride in her family - especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was a rite of passage that any child in the family was officially a “big kid” when they were taller than Grandma Carol, and she was sure to measure each time she saw them. Anyone who met her would learn all 12 of her great-grandchildren’s names (in age order).
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Nellie Peterson, siblings Corrine Christianson and Walter Peterson, and grandsons George Conor Reindl and Drew Bloomquist.
She is survived by her husband, George, children Janice Reindl, Diane (Dave) Dzuck, Karen Durfee and George (Kelly) Reindl, grandchildren Kari (Chris) Harwood, Holly (James Sartori) Durfee, Kelsey (Seth) Peterson, Hanna Durfee, Leasha (Tyler) West, Chance (Lindsey) Grife, and Kayla Reindl, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial will be held for family and close friends.
