Carl Dodge Obituary

A Good Man

It is with peace and much love that we announce the passing of Carl Dodge. Husband, father, son, adventurer, philosopher, craftsman, artist, brother and friend to many; he will be missed.

Carl met Jeri, the love of his life, early in life and in addition to a great bond over 45 years they shared adventure, travel, purpose, and chose to build their extraordinary home to accommodate their life together in Bowstring, Minnesota.

Carl built their home (of many rooms) with purpose and intent of assorted materials, colors, and generations. While he built (extraordinarily) plumb, square and level, he accepted occasional variances with calm style. Much the same can be said of his work to help build his community.

Carl was known far and wide for his carpentry, joinery, and fine woodworking skills. He learned his craft and generous business practices from elders and on his own, and freely shared what he learned.

Many knew him as a mentor, teacher, and wise advisor and his humble influence made a real difference in many lives. Others knew his ready wit, smile, laugh, and unlimited supply of jokes with impeccable timing to lighten the moment. All were lucky to know him.

Carl was included within the strong Anishinaabe people and worked alongside to help preserve important customs and traditional ways. This reflected his values of inclusivity, morality, integrity, family and love.

Carl wore many hats and had a knack for selecting the right one for every need. And, remarkably, he always had the right tool at hand and a clever solution.

Carl possessed a great understanding of the fragility of life and the gift of family, friends and community and approached life (and death) with strength, humility, resolve and unswerving dedication to his loved ones.

Survived by loving wife Jeri Dodge, sons Jake (Christina) Dodge, Orion (Kelly) Nason, mother Julie Dodge Johnson, siblings Christina (Scott) Dodge and Ben (Nancee) Dodge, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and others near and far.

Carl will be welcomed by those who have passed before including grandson Orion Jr, daughter Leah, father Harry, brother Dan, and his furbaby cat Richard Parker.

Carl Dodge was born November 30, 1961 and died August 18, 2024. The wake will be held starting at 4:00 August 23rd at Lone Eagle Center Ball Club, MN and the service will be held at 11:00 on August 24th.
