Arthur "Art" Leonard Peck

Arthur Leonard Peck, 88 of Deer River, Mn passed away peacefully at his home on Jan 8th, 2025. Art was born on June 19, 1936 to Arthur and Mary Peck in Grand Rapids, Mn and grew up in Deer River with his parents and brother, Eugene.

Art graduated from Deer River High School and Agg School and went on to marry Marlene (Dolly) Serfling. Art and Dolly lived in Deer River where they raised four boys, Art Jr., Leonard, John, and Robin. Art was a boxer for 13 years and was the Golden Glove Champion in 1956 and 1958. He logged most of his life, had his own sawmill and enjoyed making all the lumber that he used to build his home and many other things. Art worked in the trades all of his life. He started out building homes and then went on to laying brick, building many schools and buildings and even one of the stacks at the power plant in Cohasset. In the early 1980’s he went to Alaska to work laying brick. He eventually went on to buying a house in the early years of the 1990’s in Fairbanks and running cranes in parts of Alaska like Prudhoe Bay, Gnome, Dutch Harbor and even in Panama. If you have ever listened to his voicemail, you knew how proud he was to be a crane operator.

Art was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and working his land. You would never find him sitting inside his house, he was always outside making trails in the woods, on his tractor discing up and planting his fields or crafting something out of wood in his garage. And if he was not at home, you could find him in town having coffee, visiting with friends, and telling the many wild stories he had of the past.

Proceeded by: his parents, wife Dolly, and sons Leonard and Robin.

Survived by: his brother Eugene (Anita), sons Art Jr. and John, daughter-in-law Laurie; grandchildren Greg (Jodi) Payne, John (Vanessa), Janse Bjergum, Lisa (Judd) Evans, Travis (Kassy), Travis Bjergum, David (Jenny), Sara (Jason), Robert, Eve (Adrian) Lohr, and 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial Visitation will be Friday Jan 17, 2025 from 5pm-7pm at Carroll Funeral Home Deer River, MN, with a burial at a later date.
