History: Ann grew up in Long Island, New York, where she raised her son, Jim, until she met her beloved husband, Larry O'Neill, and his two children Bob and Margie. When Larry retired from the US Navy, Ann and her family moved to Golden Valley, Minnesota, near where Larry had been born and raised. Jim joined the US Army Special Forces after graduating from high school in 1969, and spent much of his leave in northern Minnesota. Jim introduced Ann and Larry to the beauty of Itasca County and it wasn't long before they grew roots in Effie, buying a small house on a big lot. Ann and Larry loved living in Effie, from the natural wonders and wildlife to the neighbors that became family. They grew a prodigious garden, became involved in multiple community organizations, and befriended everyone who met them. Larry and Ann did everything together, until Larry's death in 2007. For 13 years Ann stayed in their house, but was never truly alone. Her friends and neighbors in her community surrounded Ann with love, often exchanging flowers from their gardens, desserts made from scratch, and decades of shared memories. Ann will be remembered for her strength and passion, her independence and resilience, and her compassion and grace.
