SusAnn (Sue) Marie (Bain) Huju, 54, of Talmoon, MN, passed away in the early hours of May 21, 2019 in her sleep in the company of her husband and all six kids after a 3-week battle with cancer. Almost 35 years ago, she wed Douglas Huju on November 4, 1983. Six kids came over the next 11 years—3 girls and 3 boys. Sue was a mother bear, first and foremost, but she took up a second job as a school bus driver when the youngest started Kindergarten. “Sue the bus driver” earned quite a reputation in the Deer River community among the parents and students over the 17 years she drove. And after she retired, she still remembered, said hi to, and welcomed hugs from all her students. In recent years, many others in the community would recognize her from the local Cenex Convenience Store where she was able to carry on her motherly habits making perfect meals. From the first t-ball game to the last wrestling match and every football, basketball, volleyball and baseball game, track meet, cheerleading event, and band and choir concert in between, you would always hear Sue the loudest cheering for her kids and all of their friends she grew fond of. She was their biggest fan not only in sports but life in general. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother that got the most joy in life out of the time she spent with her family. She was always making something—detailed and extravagant cakes for EVERYTHING, children’s Halloween costumes every year, sewing and crocheting dresses for the grand daughters, dolls, afghans, doilies, or baking cookies just for the heck of it—and seldom took time for herself. If she did, she would be reading a book, crocheting, or solving crossword puzzles in the early mornings. “Mom! Mother! Sue! We love you!!! Thanks for giving us everything you had.” SusAnn is survived by her husband Douglas Huju; her six kids Cassandra (Brent) Evans, Valeri (Joshua) Lathrop, Dannyl (Lauren) Huju, Charles (Chelsi) Huju, LouEllen Huju, and Allen Huju; 17 grandkids; her father Richard (Penny) Bain, Sr.; her mother Betty (Craig) Shank; her siblings Elaine Krein, Charles Bain, Heather Bain and Christina Manee; and aunts, uncles, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Deborah (Bain) Wigton, Richard Bain, Jr., and Renae (Bain) Phelps. Visitation and funeral service will be held at the Marcell Community Church Saturday May 25th. Visitation will start at 1:00pm, and the funeral will start at 2:00pm. There will be a gathering and light lunch to follow the funeral service.
