Irene "Honey" Caroline (Huju) Lyytinen

Irene Caroline “Honey” Lyytinen went to join her Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Bigfork Valley Hospital in Bigfork, Minnesota two months short of her 92nd birthday. She was born on February 9, 1928 in Marcell, Minnesota to Ilona Saari Huju and Victor Huju. She attended school in Marcell and was confirmed at Suomi Lutheran Church. In 1946 she married Wilho Lyytinen and they made their home in Marcell, Minnesota where they raised their family and provided care for foster children. They were married 71 years when her husband passed away and Honey lived in the same house from about 1947 until her death. Honey was an active member of the Marcell Community Church for her entire life. She taught Sunday School and Bible school for many years. She was involved in ladies aid and prayer group and actively participated in church and community activities. Although she was very talented, her hobbies were sewing and drawing. Honey was very artistic and drew pictures of all her high school classmates for their annual when she graduated from high school . She began art school through the mail and in her later years illustrated a book. Her sewing was immaculate. She was a kind lady full of encouragement and love for others. Honey was respected and admired by many and will be sorely missed.

Honey is survived by five children: Dianne (Brian Hocking) Bartell, Timothy (Claudia), Jerome (Judy), Linda (Mike Hagabek) and Marcy Remington; numerous grand children, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is also survived by her sister Aileen Kovanen and brother Matt Huju and four sisters-in-law: Pat Lyytinen, Sandy Lyytinen, Pat Huju, and Wanda Huju.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilho Lyytinen, two brothers: Vic Huju and John Huju; three sisters: Elsie Anderson, Irja Christie, an infant sister; and grandson Bill Bartell.

Funeral services are at Marcell Community Church on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 p.m. Visitation is at 12 p.m. preceding services at Marcell Church.

Honey will be laid to rest at Evergreen Knoll cemetery in Marcell, Minnesota.
