Gladys May Snyder, age 102, of Deer River died at the Deer River Health Care Center on Sunday, May 19, 2019. She was born in Wirt Township on January 12, 1917 to Charles and Katherine (Parker) Peterson. Gladys graduated from Deer River High School in 1934 and attended college in Walker. On March 6, 1937 she married Roy Snyder and they settled in the Bowstring area. For a short time Gladys and Roy worked in a logging camp where she was the cook and Roy was a lumberjack. They moved to Deer River in 1941 when Roy got a job at the Deer River Post Office. Later Gladys went to work at the Western Itasca Review and eventually Roy and Gladys purchased the paper and became the publisher and editor. Survivors include daughters, Maxine Harty of Ainsworth, NE and Sally (Vince) Jonas of Mountain Iron, son Jerry (Janet) of Lake City, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children and 11 great-great-grandchildren, cousin, Marlene Erickson of Eau Claire, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Gladys' request there will be a private family burial.
