Arvo Maki, Age 95 of Suomi, MN passed away on November 16, 2019 at the Homestead Rehab & Living Center.
Arvo was born September 12, 1924 to Oscar and Mary Haapamaki, in Suomi, MN. Arvo married Beatrice Elayne Lekander they raised two children after serving as a tank navigator in WWII with earlier work in the logging and mining industries. Arvo was known for his carpentry skills in surrounding areas until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elayne, brother Wilho, sister Irja Johnson, and infant sons Timothy & John.
Arvo is Survived by son Mark (Janet) Maki of Cohasset, daughter Lisa McCandless of Menomonie, WI, 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren & 1great great grandchild & several nieces & nephews.
Arvo loved fishing and nurtured wildlife, he always reported a new supply of smoked fish in the refrigerator. He truly valued the friendships he developed with others through the years. Thank you to Homestead, Itasca Hospice, and Essentia Health Care staff for their professional care. Arvo enjoyed sharing stories while visiting over a cup of coffee, always stirring it in his unique rhythmic way. He was generous in sharing candy bars from his candy dish; lovingly kept well stocked by Janet.
Arvo’s Memorial Visitation we be held at Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River, MN on Saturday November 23, 2019 from 4-6 P.M. with military honors at 4:15 P.M.
