August (Gus) Henry Schultz, 93, of Bowstring went to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Gus was born on April 6, 1931, in Inger, Minnesota, to the parents of William and Mary (Byers) Schultz. He grew up in the Bowstring area and entered the Air Force in December of 1951 and was honorably discharged in November of 1955. Gus was united in marriage to Verna LaRae Cole on June 30, 1956.
Gus and Verna raised six children on their farm in Bowstring. Gus was employed by the U.S. Forest Service retiring in 1985. He was also in the logging business and enjoyed farming and gardening. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was always looking for the “big” one. His ultimate joy was his grand and great grandchildren. Gus is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Bill, Pete and Bert and sisters Belle Johnson and Peg McDaniel. He is survived by his children, Tina (Arne) Danielson, Tammy (Robert) Sack, Tim (Chris), Theresa (Jerome) Grossell, Tracy (Tim) Chase, and Todd (Kari). Grandchildren, Libby (Chad) Danielson, Jennifer (Josh) McBurnett, Kristina (Mike) Hannahs, Alyssa Sack, Cody (Amanda) Sack, Scott (Karissa) Schultz, Steven Morales, Thomas (Miranda) Schultz, Travis (Elizabeth) Schultz, McKenzie (Trevor) Klatt, Nathaniel (Amanda) Grossell, Andie Marie Chase, and Tia Schultz, and 20 great grandchildren. Gus is also survived by sisters Margie (Bill) Waydula and Winnie (Russ) Barrett and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 25th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River. Funeral services will be Friday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Deer River Bible Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial, with military honors, will be at the Evergreen Knoll Cemetery, Talmoon, following the service.
Gus will be greatly missed by family and friends.
